We built a custom set of these wheels for our Frostbike booth, and they received so much attention we went ahead and made them a regular offering. These wheels are 32h Velocity Deep V rims with the Teak Wood finish, built on silver Surly fixed/free hubs. 100% hand built, these wheels are as durable as they are good looking. To test the durability of these wheels we built up a pair, tied and soldered them, and sent them off to Sam Miller for some serious riding. Sam’s been on them for a few months now and has been impressed with them thus far. To read more about Sam and to see why his riding is as serious as his moustache, check out the All City blog.

Here’s what it looks like up close and personal:

Competitive Cyclist tied & soldered wheels

Our friends at Competitive Cyclist know a thing or two about quality products, and when they wanted a tough set of Campy wheels they gave us a call. The end result was our hand-trued production Campagnolo Record/DT RR1.1 wheels, but with the addition of having the wheels tied and soldered. A tied and soldered wheel is more durable than a regular wheel, and it is also a bit stiffer laterally, as the ties effectively increase the hub flange. These wheels are perfect for rough road races, and as an extremely durable training wheelset.

Several of our veteran builders worked on these wheels, and we’re proud to partner with Competitive Cyclist to deliver PRO level quality to the masses. If you are interested in picking up a pair for yourself check, out the Competitive Cyclist website and they’ll take care of you.
Salsa Fargo + Edge Composites

We recently had the opportunity to build up one of the finest sets of wheels currently available. Salsa head man and all around good guy Jason Boucher asked us to put together something really special for his new Salsa Fargo, and the end result was a pair of Edge Composites 29” full-carbon clincher rims on DT 240s hubs, with DT Aerolite spokes.

What did Jason then do with this masterpiece of a wheelset? He commuted on it- day in, day out, through snow, ice, road salt and potholes, Jason showed these wheels no mercy (and even refused to use a fender) in his efforts to push them and his Fargo to the limit. The end result? Aside from being covered in filth, everything worked 100%. The bike performed beautifully, and the wheels stayed round, straight and true- a true testament to the quality of the products that Edge and DT produce, as well as the quality of a Handspun build..

H+Son Commute Customs

H+Son rims are coming soon to QBP and Handspun, and we’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on a few pair to build up. Aside from building some of the SL-42 rims as track wheels, we built a couple pair of the Formation Face 42mm rims as disc wheels.
To really put these wheels through the wringer we gave them to our pal Derrick Lewis, the head of BMC North America. Derrick rides his custom Peacock Groove commute bike 5 days a week, all winter long. When asked for five words to describe how these wheels have performed over the past few months Derrick said:
1. WHITE
2. SOLID
3. HOT
4. FAST
5. ENVY

These wheels have endured the harsh Minnesota winter (including a pretty spectacular crash on the ice), and are still true and ready for more.
